Speaker 1(0:55)

Hello all. Welcome to said Sidecast of Pastimes at 80s High. Got Dongo and Kevin with me tonight. How are you doing, boys?

Speaker 2(1:07)

Doing good.

Speaker 1(1:08)

All right. So yeah, we're going to do a little sidecast as Brother Mark cannot make it tonight. And we're going to do a little Star Wars episode, if you will. And we are going to do our favorite flying vehicles from the Star Wars universe. I'm sure we all took very different angles here, boys, but we're going to find out. So anyway, we hope you enjoy it. And we're going to kick it off with Kev tonight.

Speaker 2(1:37)

All right. We're going to start right off with a wee bit of controversy.

Speaker 1(1:43)

Oh boy.

Speaker 2(1:44)

Because in the world that we live in today, it's no longer allowed to be called by its original name. Uh, and that would be Slave One. That would be Django and Boba Fett's ship. Um, it actually was a fire spray 31 class patrol and attack craft that Django stole from a prison moon and heavily modified. It was manufactured at the Kuat Systems Engineering.

Speaker 1(2:19)

Oh boy.

Speaker 2(2:20)

And it cost 125,650 credits. I believe that's the new price and not the used price. And at this point, although that was a lot of information, I would like to put the disclaimer out there to anyone listening that we are Star Wars fans. We are not dedicated in our entire lives to all things Star Wars. So if we get something wrong, feel free to email us. But really, we're not representing ourselves. We know that there's people out there with way deeper knowledge than us. We're just having a good time with a series that we love.

Speaker 1(3:01)

Shooting the vacuum of space. But anyway, um that was great, Kevin, because you are far more in depth than I planned on going here, as I am just going to give you said ship's name. So, anyway, uh just real something I wanted to say real quick, you know, stemming off of what you said about that, is our deep hatred for a lot of the Star Wars universe. And what it is is the fact that the hatred we have for some of these newer things, I am trying to put myself into a child's perspective of it, you know, where their introduction was into this universe. So I guess if someone came in on the you know, the the prequels or later, like you know, their perspective could be way different about it. So I'm gonna try to keep my hatred out from now on, although it will, you know, announce itself here and there. It creeps in, yeah. You know what I mean? Like I think about I try to think about someone coming in, you know, episode 789, and what their age was at that point, because that could be their introduction. Well, I want to shit all over it. So I I'm doing my best here.

Speaker 2(4:26)

Interest interesting point, AJ, because I think we've all made it pretty clear that our great disappointment and that we were introduced to Luke, Leah, Han, and the gang in the 70s and 80s, and wanted to see that. And by the time we waited 40 years, all we get to see is them die. Right. Um, which is where our hatred comes from. But good point that definitely kids came into it at different times, and obviously, part of our hatred is also that they were heavily marketed to um as kids, more so than we were with the toys and whatever else. Not that the toys and the figures weren't huge to us, but yeah, definitely they're coming at it from a different perspective, and and that's an interesting take.

Speaker 1(5:12)

Yes, indeed. So I hate all of those kids, but anyway, all right. So I'm gonna kick off with my seven then, and that is going to be, and I'm gonna get you know crapped on for this a little bit because they're not gonna take it as a ship, however, it moves, and that would be the Death Star. Okay, legitimate, yeah. This is a flying vehicle, no matter who or what says it, it definitely is a big part of the universe, a very, very big part of several movies and series, if you will. But God, it's just awesome, man. That's the ultimate weapon, the power to destroy a plant. Yeah, and I don't think they ever ever shown it flying, like like they never shown it like going into hyperspace or anything, which is definitely, but they they'll say, you know, the rebel base is within X amount of distance or whatever, you know.

Speaker 3(6:21)

Where they could have transported to the other side of the planet within a second, but maybe it's you know its navigation systems aren't great, you know, it could put you in the vicinity, but not as pinpoint as a other craft can. Perhaps it only goes half light speed.

Speaker 2(6:39)

I was gonna say, how do you get something the size of a planet to move light speed?

Speaker 3(6:44)

Right.

Speaker 2(6:45)

That's that's amazing.

Speaker 3(6:46)

Right, it it is maybe it's got like tugboats or something, some kind of tug system.

Speaker 2(6:52)

Yeah, as as far as your argument for being a flying vehicle AJ, I saw no tracks or wheels on it.

Speaker 1(6:58)

So erect mundo. Right. Awesome. All right, so do you dongo?

Speaker 3(7:04)

Cool, and I'm just gonna go with like a simplistic uh craft to start, and mine is the Imperial shuttle, and it's called the Lambda class T4A shuttle, and we all know it as the one that they use to um you know get past the shield to go into uh he's showing me this uh, you know, to get to get on to you know the ewaks and and endor.

Speaker 4(7:34)

Shuttle tereum requesting deactivation of the deflector shield.

Speaker 3(7:39)

Um you know it's an older code, sir, but it checks out.

Speaker 5(7:41)

It's an older code, sir, but it checks out. I was about to clear them.

Speaker 3(7:46)

Um and you know, I remember from Star Wars, Luke was using it in his little hut there. He was like, he had a toy, so it was kind of like the the the Ford F-150 of the time, you know. Very common thing, you know. They made toys out of it for the people, you know. You're absolutely right though. It's just a workhorse, but it's a very sleek looking aircraft, right? Um, it's cool looking. I like it. I like the swept wing look of it. Nice.

Speaker 1(8:14)

Um there's a lot of throwbacks later on to this, which I won't get into because I don't want to spoil anyone's picks. But that's you, Kevin.

Speaker 2(8:24)

Oh, it's me. Excellent. All right, so my next up, I believe my sixth pick, is going to be the T16 Skyhopper that you see behind the compound. And I'm saying it now because it looked like very similar in shape to the the Lambda 4, to the to the uh ST321, with that triangle shape, one wing at the top, and then yeah, two angled down at the bottom. And it was uh, I mean, it was that one was definitely like the F-150 of uh of the era, or not even. It was it was probably the Toyota Corolla of the era. That one cost 7,500 credits, so you could probably get a part-time job and get one. And it was you know for hunting and right, exactly. There you go. It was for hunting and and transport. Um, and it was just an airspeeder, it was it was kind of utilitarian, kind of uh yeah, an everyday kind of piece of machinery, but again, very similar in style to the to the ST31.

Speaker 1(9:41)

And I wonder I wasn't just saying this, I do believe it was actually called the A-wing.

Speaker 2(9:49)

Oh, was it? I did not think so.

Speaker 1(9:51)

I mean, there is an A-wing, and that's what I can picture it as. Although there's another one that that could be too. And all right, so we're off to me, and I do apologize because I did not dig deep for those names, but you are doing an amazing job at that, Kev. So that's Wikipedia. Yep. Anyway, so my next one is kind of a simple one, you know, very prominent during the first Death Star battle, and that would be the Y-wing fighter. And these this is where you're hearing the gold members of the fleet, you know, gold one to gold five, blah blah blah, and hello, gold leader, gold leader. These ships were very cool looking, and that battle is one of the best memories of my childhood. I will never forget it, and I will lead off to you then, Donald.

Speaker 3(10:47)

So I'll stick with that, and I I also have the Y-wing. Um, because I see them as the unsung, kind of underappreciated heroes of the rebellion. I don't recall, and I'd have to like scour all the movies to see if they've ever shot down anything, or actually they're bombers, right? So I don't I don't think I've ever seen them drop a bomb either. So the only thing they've been portrayed in in any of the movies is getting shot down.

Speaker 1(11:17)

I know, right?

Speaker 3(11:18)

Yeah, they are the failure of ships, right? But they must be a important aircraft because they're in the fleet, they're manned, they're um they're in the battle, they're in the fight. So I I like that about them is that they're the kind of the workhorse bomber. Um yeah, they might not be as fast or as nimble as the X-Wing, but they're they're definitely the uh unsung heroes.

Speaker 1(11:44)

Mind.

Speaker 3(11:45)

If anybody has and I do believe I did see them chasing other ships, you know, when a good guy was being trailed, you know, they were definitely most of them might be to draw fire because they're they're heavily, they're more heavily armed than the or armored than the X-Ware. So maybe part of their worth is to kind of like take fire from you know to let the fighters do their thing, you know, they're kind of like drawing fire.

Speaker 1(12:16)

Perhaps. Yeah, and they're definitely have larger engines on them. Yeah. Although there's only two, correct? Because of the only two engines, right?

Speaker 2(12:25)

Right, right. It almost looks like they're the cockpit is kind of like glued onto the engines in the back, but that's the toy. Yeah. Well, no, I mean it just it's they doesn't look like a complete thought. It looks like it's glued together for whatever purpose. But they're kind of like the the um the red shirts of Star Trek. Just don't analogy. They don't survive. They uh but it is also listed as a snub fighter, whatever that is, is part of its definition. It's a bomber and a snub fighter. So I guess that would mean close range.

Speaker 1(13:04)

Yeah, I also think it's how Donnie explained it. They're just to deter, right?

Speaker 2(13:09)

Yeah, yeah. Get a little close hand-to-hand combat, you know, in a fighter.

Speaker 1(13:15)

Right.

Speaker 2(13:16)

Yeah, so hand-to-hand.

Speaker 1(13:18)

All right, so we're back to you then, Kev.

Speaker 2(13:22)

All right, that's okay. Back to you. I'll just be you. Um, so now I'm gonna go backwards for a moment because I too had picked the ST321, the Lambda class T4A shuttle designed by Sinar Fleet Systems. This one does have hyperdrive.

Speaker 1(13:41)

Good research, which is nice.

Speaker 2(13:44)

Uh, but again, a super cool looking ship. I mean, it was just badass when it's when when Vader comes in to the Death Star and he's choking him out about the just coming out. That ship just looks so kick ass.

Speaker 3(14:00)

Yeah, it looks cool.

Speaker 2(14:01)

Yeah, it's like a black 69 charger or something. You're just like, ooh, that guy's serious. Yeah, so yeah, that would be my pick.

Speaker 1(14:09)

It's got smooth blinds. The Emperor does not share your optimistic appraisal of the situation. Yes. So now that you brought that up, and I am correct when you said the Imperial Shuttle, correct? Because that's the same guy. All right, I was trying to say Shuttle Tiderian, which is the one you were speaking of, Donald, when they're flying to Endor.

Speaker 2(14:33)

So is that your pick?

Speaker 1(14:34)

The no, not at all. I just didn't want to discuss I it was a scratch of mine, though.

Speaker 3(14:39)

And so I knew Donnie's cool, which is saying the one that went to Endor um was not the Lambda class, it was a different ship entirely, or it it says here now we're looking at the Lambda class T4A shuttle.

Speaker 2(14:55)

No, that's the one then is it goes to the Battle of Endor. Oh, okay. It's affiliated with the Galactic Empire, it's owned by Darth Vader and its crew members.

Speaker 1(15:05)

Yeah, just Tyrion was their was their call name, that's all. That's when Chewy has to, you know, act casual.

Speaker 6(15:14)

Right.

Speaker 1(15:15)

Don't look like you're acting casual.

Speaker 4(15:17)

Exactly. Keep your distance, though, Chewy. But don't look like you're trying to keep your distance. I don't know. Fly casual.

Speaker 1(15:27)

Awesome. All right, well, here we go again to me, yes? And it is you. This would be the red crew, and I do apologize out there because I did not get their you know, exact names, and thank you, Kevin, because you're nailing it.

Speaker 2(15:45)

But this is Wikipedia has all the answers.

Speaker 1(15:48)

Simply the X-wing fighter, you know, this ship just and I've always thought it so funny because I just when those wings separate, you know, I'm just like, are they that much more missable from firepower, or is it just to help them fly more smoothly in like quick situations where they're dodging lasers? And we know Luke, I believe. Hopefully, I get this right because I will really get crucified. Red five, yes, red five standing by, and just or is that five standing by? Yes, exactly. And you but just how can I leave any of them out? That's like the greatest battle in aircraft, yeah. You know, sci-fi.

Speaker 3(16:38)

I mean, it so reminded me of like when they were getting ready for that the battle at the start of the first one. It reminded me of like uh old World War II movie with people getting on an aircraft. Yeah, Porkins was somebody was a red guy, yeah.

Speaker 2(16:55)

Yeah, and he had a role in a different movie too, and like a fairly famous one, and now I can't remember what it was. Stay on target, stay on target, stay on target.

Speaker 7(17:05)

We're too close, stay on target.

Speaker 2(17:07)

Yeah, so Porkins was also uh in Raiders of the Lost Ark. He was Eckhart in Batman, he was Munson in Flash Gordon, so he's uh he's quite an actor.

Speaker 1(17:18)

Made the rounds, he has made the rounds, star in his own right.

Speaker 2(17:23)

Can you imagine? I would think that just even the small roles that he's had in those movies being so big that he must be doing over.

Speaker 1(17:31)

When you say big, are you calling him fat? No, poor guy named Porkins.

Speaker 3(17:38)

Well, when you think about actors and actresses, there are you know, there's so few that are like Tom Cruise type, you know, there's only like a handful of them, like maybe 80 to 100 of them. Oh, yeah, yeah. But the rest of like the speaking parts, like if you get a speaking part in a movie, you're doing pretty good. Absolutely.

Speaker 1(17:58)

Yeah, you're the middleman, right? Yeah, you're not the cameo. Yeah, awesome. So that's to you, Dungo.

Speaker 3(18:07)

Cool. So this one I will be going to the prequels. This is prominently seen in the episode three, Revenge of the Sith, and it's the Low Altitude Assault Transport. And this is where, you know, I much preferred the model, you know, like the 1972 model photography versus the CGI agreed. Like early CGI sucked, it looked cartoony, you know, it wasn't great. But I did like this aircraft because my memory of it is like Yoda sitting in the door, like it's like a Huey. They were fighting whiz stormtroopers, like fighting the clones, like it was a clone war kind of thing. So it was cool, you know. They it was like an open door, it had a gunner in the door kind of thing. There's multiple versions of it, like there's a gunship, there's a transport, there's a starfighter, there's a bomber, but the one I'm focusing on is the troop transport. Yeah, it's like the Huey, that's how I refer to it.

Speaker 2(19:16)

Yes, yep, yep, heavily, heavily borrowed from from that style and and attitude. Like I think I'm trying to remember, it's been a while, but do they actually have like the M60 hanging from the door?

Speaker 3(19:28)

It looks like in one of them where it's like right when Order 66 came about when they turned on him. It's like there was a stormtrooper like in the door with a gun, and I think Yoda like figured out like, oh shoot, and like they're turning on us now. So you know, he I don't know how he got out of it, but he's Yoda, he's cool. He nailed it.

Speaker 2(19:50)

Always makes me think of full metal jacket when the guys the guy's got that oh, I think it's the M60, whatever, out the window. And Matthew Modine asked him, sis, how do you shoot women and children? It's easy, you just don't lead them so much.

Speaker 1(20:05)

Oh dear lord. Horrible exactly yeah, yeah, it's terrible. Oh, nice pick. Yeah, all right, Kevin. That's to you.

Speaker 2(20:14)

All right, well, I gotta tell you, I gotta take it. Yeah, you gotta go with the ship, the Millennium Falcon.

Speaker 1(20:21)

Oh, you gotta have someone had that?

Speaker 2(20:23)

Go on, what's that? Oh, nothing, go on.

Speaker 3(20:26)

Great pick.

Speaker 2(20:27)

Oh, did you were you not have a question about this?

Speaker 3(20:30)

Yes, please ask. In all of Star Wars lore, a lot of people make fun of it. Yeah, but in episode four, when Leia sees it for the first time, she says, You came in that. Does she say you're better than I thought, or you're braver than braver?

Speaker 8(20:47)

You can recognize you're braver than I thought.

Speaker 5(20:50)

Nice, come on.

Speaker 3(20:51)

Braver than she was making fun of it also, or oh yeah, because she always used to get out of here.

Speaker 9(20:57)

You're braver than I thought. But help if I got out and pushed Captain Turner, Captain Turner.

Speaker 2(21:03)

So it's it's the the whole joke is, and I didn't realize this, that that little crease in the middle where it comes to a point. Yeah, it it it's it's a freighter. Right. And that was for moving stuff around.

Speaker 3(21:17)

Like push his cargo, right?

Speaker 2(21:19)

Exactly. And that's all it's it's like he shows up in you know in a U-Haul, basically, is what it is. But it's been modified so many times between you know, Lando and and and um Han and uh Chewbacca's got his fingerprints all over it, right? So they just soup the thing up.

Speaker 10(21:39)

What a piece of junk.

Speaker 4(21:41)

So make point five past light speed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself.

Speaker 2(21:49)

But it exactly counts, right? Exactly. And yes, and AJ, you you alluded to the the parsecs and the right, right, right. Using using a a length measure as a time measure will always be something that people just go, yeah, yeah, it's an ongoing thing. How do you how do you write the most popular sci-fi movie in the world and not know the difference between that up, but of course, they didn't have the internet then.

Speaker 3(22:20)

So that's that answers a question to me because I've always lived with the thought that Leia looked at it and was like, Oh, that's pretty cool. You're you're better than I thought. Oh no, no.

Speaker 1(22:34)

You came in that yeah, you're pretty.

Speaker 3(22:35)

Braver than it. You came in that thing? Yeah. Exactly.

Speaker 1(22:39)

She's like, that what a piece of shit is what she's saying. Exactly.

Speaker 2(22:45)

But it's all engine.

Speaker 3(22:46)

It's all that thing's all engine, you know? Yeah.

Speaker 2(22:49)

Because it's just it's moving stuff. And like you said, heavily heavily, heavily modified. Modified. Uh but Corellian engine co Corellian Engineering Corporation was the manufacturer. Um it's it's just uh oh, it was it was built somewhere around 60 BBY, which I think is the oldest, because like the the uh the TIE fighters were like 16 BBY. So I I th I think that's it's an ancient ship, right? Which is another reason that they make fun of it.

Speaker 1(23:24)

I mean it's it shows its age.

Speaker 2(23:28)

Yeah, it's it's four or five times as old as the ships that it's that it's keep it up well.

Speaker 1(23:34)

I mean, all he has to do is be the fawns and hit things once in a while and it comes on. It's like just punch it and the hyperdrive will kick in.

Speaker 2(23:49)

All right, exactly. Well, but a great ship regardless. One in a Sabok game, if I said that right. Uh Sabak.

Speaker 1(23:59)

Sabak, I believe, if I'm not mistaken.

Speaker 11(24:03)

She did too. You fold now, you walk away with enough to get yourself your own little ship. You call. I'm gonna clean you out again. I don't know, I'm feeling lucky. It's mutual, trust me. She belongs with me. You got everything you need there, pal? Not bad. Not bad. You know, if you'd only had this little green silop, you would have been square, baby.

Speaker 1(24:56)

Baron square. Awesome though. So that is what? Number four to me. And here we go with a repeat. And this is Slave One. Friggin' Boba Fett Ship is just amazing, and obviously from the original trilogy, but so much before and after as well, and just how cool it was. I mean, all I I think always think of them carrying Han out of there, you know, frozen in the carbonite, and then I my favorite scene with that ship, and actually maybe I'm mistaken, but I think it's the first time we see it. But it's when the Falcon is parked on top of a star destroyer before the asteroid, you know, right, right, and he gets dumped out with the trash. Exactly. He gets dumped with the and that's another one, Donald, that alludes to what you were saying. Right, where Leia says, like, oh, here we go with the rest of the trash.

Speaker 9(26:00)

Well, if they follow standard imperial procedure, they'll dump their garbage before they go to light speed, and then we just float away.

Speaker 1(26:06)

The rest of the garbage. But um, but then they take off, and then you see Boba Fett's slave one light up and start to trail them to Cloud City. So awesome.

Speaker 3(26:20)

So Dongo, I believe that's what we bring it into a recent ship. Um, recent being it was BBY, but it was uh in the recent Andor show, and that is Lutheran Rails Fonder Hullcraft. So it's it was his ship, which also was heavily modified. Um, it had a millennium Falk-esque cockpit, it's a transport, it's a cargo ship, it had multi-uses, but it I liked it had like swept wing kind of thing. He had it modified to be like it was almost like AI driven, like he had a robot driving the thing, but he had a lot of like countermeasures that were really cool with it. Oh yeah. Um great character, too, man. I almost thought he was a Jedi, but they didn't allude to that. No, um, and he wasn't, he was just a dude, but he was very like like mindful and smart, like very good at being deceptive.

Speaker 1(27:22)

And you almost gotta think he led the re or started.

Speaker 3(27:27)

A lot of people it is all him, his patience, his his like calmness and his ability to like see ahead many plays, you know, like he was forced forethought and knew he had to be methodical and slow and which made it great when he got angry.

Speaker 1(27:46)

You know what I mean? When he got angry, you knew he was like, Look, we need to do this, and you're not caring enough about the rebellion. Like he was bat, he's battle axe in my eyes. Yeah, and what a great fucking act.

Speaker 3(28:02)

And I guess it's the way if you're gonna be a revolutionary, you gotta be like cold hearted when he when he murdered the can't remember his character name, but he was an em he was like the spy, the guy that he was like a red-headed dude giving him information, right? And then he's like, You gotta get me out of here, you gotta save. I got a wife and kids or whatever, and he like shoots them on the park bench kind of thing. Yeah, that was a little cold. That was a little cold, but I guess that's the cause, baby. The cause. What do you sacrifice?

Speaker 5(28:45)

Kindness, kinship, love. I've given up all chance at inner peace. I made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion. I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my my eagerness to fight has set me on a path from which there's no escape. I yearn to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost, and by the time I look down, there's no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my what is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. Now the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice?

Speaker 2(29:55)

Everything! Cassian did the same thing. Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. In rogue in Rogue One, right? And so I think that's what Luthan's yeah, Luthin's character was all about that. I'd say that he maybe Luthan.

Speaker 1(30:11)

Thank you. I said it wrong too.

Speaker 2(30:12)

Yes. I I think that he maybe maybe there was like sparks of the rebellion everywhere, or it was an idea, but he was the one that solidified it, and he had the political contacts, and he had the rebels, and he, you know what I mean? He developed. I think he he is the centerpiece of the rebellion. I really think that's that's who he was. Because, you know, you look at whether it was uh Mon or whether it was Cassian or whatever else, he was he was pulling all the strings and had all the connections and was I mean, come on, he he had a guy inside at that level, the the redhead there that he killed. I mean, that's that's he was he was miles ahead of everybody else, was like throwing sticks in the street without question. And he was dealing with senators and and uh and high-level yeah, and what were they?

Speaker 3(31:06)

They were like they were kind of like the Imperial Intelligence, I want to say they were. They were like CIA basically. Right, Imperial CIA kind of thing. Yeah, I think they were more deep than that, dude. Chevlets as the model, yeah, it's a Chevlex. Made by Fondor Yards Commercial Ventures. It's a light pullcraft, it's a transport. They even have the manufacturer, heavily modified, yeah.

Speaker 1(31:35)

Nothing gets deeper than the Star Wars universe.

Speaker 2(31:38)

And I I know it's crazy when you start, it's like you've you've got the factory where these things were made, and you've got you got like the guy that worked on like no one doesn't around. Yeah, yeah. There was well, you know, so they they not only have the planet that and the company that made it, but they can tell you about the strike that that happened one year, and they can tell you about you know, it's like and they had trouble getting this this mineral or whatever. It's wild, wild. Yeah, and that's what I meant at the beginning when I said, Yeah, we we ain't that right, yeah.

Speaker 1(32:17)

But we're damn good, boys. We do our pretty in depth here, and I just I will never punch imbeciles. I won't get too in depth because I know this will go down this road, but to me, without a doubt, Andor and Rogwan is the best side view of Star Wars.

Speaker 3(32:42)

Well, that should have been the prequels, like the Andor last season of Andor. Oh, they could have done that all in three movies and were both fucking the predictions. Right, right. Ross Isley.

Speaker 1(32:56)

Yeah, yes, yeah. All right, so I believe that is to you, Kevin.

Speaker 2(33:02)

Alrighty then. So for my number three pick, and I thought Donnie was gonna take it, I'm glad he went in a different direction. So I actually chose the tie avenger, which was that wicked cool tie fighter that that and and or stuff that Cassian stole. Instead of the um record album fives on the TIE Fighter, it was the it's they like point forward. Yeah. They like yeah, and it's it was it was a heavily advanced it was like a stealth one, wasn't it?

Speaker 3(33:39)

Of some kind of heads. Well, it's good.

Speaker 2(33:42)

Yeah. Unlike the original TIE Fighters, which were literally you could like you you didn't go interstellar, you couldn't, you couldn't do hyperdrive. It's a short range ship. It's a short range ship. You had two days worth of supplies, and even that would be very uncomfortable. So this one, it has hyperdrive, it's got cannons, it's got headlights for some reason. Um it's got life support, it has a dashboard. It has a dashboard, nobody's exactly sure. Obviously, some kind of new fangled like control system because Cassidy had had a hell of a time.

Speaker 3(34:17)

He had a tricky time flying it. Yeah, he couldn't figure it out at first. I almost saw a little bit of Independence Day in that scene. Yes, well, wicked. So then he pulls back the other way. It was like that, it's very similar to that scene. Yes, it was. Good call, Donald.

Speaker 2(34:37)

Go on, Kev. So do you know what the tie in TIE Fighter stands for?

Speaker 3(34:43)

I do not.

Speaker 2(34:44)

That would be twin ion engine. Ah, nice, and you can hear the in the wings because the middle is singing high pitch. Yes, exactly. Exactly. So but that was like the the extrapolation of the that was the brand new 2025 GMC Denali version of the not the Ford F-150 TIE fighter. It was the all the bells and whistles, heated cool seats, sunroof, you know, the whole thing.

Speaker 1(35:16)

It's like a Tesla on the screen, you know, the beautiful dashboard screen. All right, you ice holes. So we're going to my number three, and we're late enough in my list where I will say, All right, I'm sorry. I'm gonna get boring, but how can I not take the Falcon? It's just boring. It's my fa it's just my favorite ship. Not my favorite favorite ship, but I couldn't leave it off my list. I mean, I could have gone way more in depth, but man, this is the Millennium Falcon, man. It's a main character. Just think about every scene exactly that this this ship is in.

Speaker 5(36:02)

Just hey, you awake?

Speaker 9(36:05)

Yeah, I just got a funny feeling. Like I'm not gonna see her again.

Speaker 1(36:09)

Is so incredible. Everything it's been through, and just you know, going to Cloud City and diving down the monster's mouth into the cave and the asteroid field, and just shooting the minox off of it. You know, just everything about this ship is so fucking amazing. And what you were saying, Donald, about Leia, it always had a problem. You know, it never failed, and the hyperdrive, of course, doesn't work in that scene. 3PO, hand won't let him talk, and he's just trying to shut him up. Exactly.

Speaker 2(36:48)

But the way 60 years old by the time we see it, so uh it's definitely out of warranty.

Speaker 3(36:53)

Yeah, right, right. But just shut the fuck up. It's like a hot rod that's always leaking, you know, you always gotta tweak it.

Speaker 1(37:02)

But sometimes you just want to say, just listen for a minute. 3PO is telling you what's wrong with it. The hyperdrive isn't gonna work, and they shut him down. Don't they shut him down at that point? It's like you know, the poor dude like is only trying to help, and he's such a pain in the ass and annoying. But if they just shut the F up and listened to him, they wouldn't have had that scenario. But that's all I can say. Off to you, Dongo.

Speaker 3(37:36)

All right, so this is another one that spans the entire universe. Um, I love the scene in Rogue One that it's used in, and it's the hammerhead corvette. Yes, they actually use the word Corvette, which I thought was kind of cool, and it's an it's an it's a transport ship. Um, it's a variation of the ship that Leia was on in episode four, um, where they were outrunning the Star Destroyer. Um, but in Rogue One, they use the hammerhead corvette. It's this like little tiny thing that's like pushes a Star Destroyer into the shield and destroys the shield kind of thing. So it's just a it's a good like workhorse.

Speaker 10(38:18)

This is Admiral Redditz, Rogue One. We hear you. We have the plans. They found the Death Stell plans, they have to transmit them from their communications tablet. You have to take down the shield gate. It's the only way they're gonna get them through. Call up a hammerhead Corvette. I have an idea.

Speaker 3(38:35)

It's the bulldogs. I believe it was built by the Imperial um in the in the before the Empire, but it became like a staple for the Alliance. Yeah.

Speaker 2(38:48)

Corellian engineering.

Speaker 3(38:50)

It is a Corellian ship. Corillion ship, the sphere class, sphere engineering. Yeah, I'm glad that. I believe the Corillion is like the BMW of the ships, you know, that like the shipbuilders, the Corillians are good shipbuilders.

Speaker 1(39:05)

No, yes. And I don't mean the little Corillion ships, I'm talking about the big boys.

Speaker 2(39:11)

Yes, yes. That one will set you back a million credits.

Speaker 1(39:16)

Yeah, right. Yeah, it's a big boy, right? Yeah, it's not a cheap. We even have the damn banking system for the rebel alliance here.

Speaker 2(39:27)

Some of them do, some of them don't. All right, is that two to you, Kev? It sure is. All right. Now I gotta go with I had to do it a little later because it's so iconic, and that's the X-Wing. I mean, it is just the badass utility starfighter. I mean, it was it was everywhere. Uh it uh there's multiple models of it, of course.

Speaker 1(40:00)

That's how I look at it. Like, exactly.

Speaker 2(40:05)

Exactly. It's the F-14 by Incom Corporation, and uh, I don't have a value on that. I don't know why we don't have a value on that. So I don't know. I'm guessing it's pretty pricey. Um, but AJ, earlier you were talking about where the X wings open up, and I always thought that that was like for maneuverability and stability. Like you've got like I don't know if they have ailerons on them or or what, but right you know, I would think that you can you can probably cut faster because you've got those wind to catch which there shouldn't be aerodynamics involved in space, but no, but well, you don't know that because you are moving forward.

Speaker 3(40:48)

Well, they do fly into atmosphere, so they must have to take that into account. Right, right, because they're multi-platform thing in the atmosphere, in space.

Speaker 1(41:01)

Well, if the thrust though is going, and forgive me here for my um physics lesson, but even if you're in the vacuum of space, if you have thrust powering you, wouldn't well, I guess not.

Speaker 3(41:16)

Yeah, it's really effed up if you think about it. Sorry, Kevin, works in space and all that kind of stuff. But maybe it's a weapons thing too, because when they're closed, you have the guns all together, but when they're open, they're farther apart. It gives you a wide field of fire kind of thing.

Speaker 2(41:34)

I think I think I would have to pay more attention to when they open those wings up and the it's right during combat. Is it during combat? So yeah, I think that's a good thing. I would think regardless of I mean, this we're talking about people that didn't know what a parsec was, so they might not have fully explored thrusters in space in the back of space at that time. So uh one of the funny things that I can say about fighter position.

Speaker 1(42:00)

Um I can't think of the exact position, yeah, attacking attack positions, yeah.

Speaker 5(42:05)

Yeah, lucky as balls in attack position.

Speaker 2(42:07)

One of the one of the funniest things that this relates to for me is so we had over the years from my age all the way down through my cousins and then my cousins, kids play with them now was all our Star Wars toys. And so there was obviously between the youngest of the my generation of cousins and the first time I think I think it was me or somebody in my family had a younger generation that would they would play with them. My my grandmother kept them in the basement from like 1990 something to the early 2000s, and somebody pulled out, it was you know, the X-wing that you would have put the standard figure in. They pulled it out, and it had to have been a decade and a half, and pushed the button and it made the noise.

Speaker 3(43:00)

That's cool.

Speaker 2(43:01)

I don't know how a double A battery, and then there's a legend that's a big thing. Right. Oh, it didn't rot the X Wing. Right? There's a legend that somebody opened up and there wasn't a battery in it. I don't know, I wasn't there that day. So I I don't know, but it was a quality toy.

Speaker 3(43:18)

So I remember early renditions of the X Wing actually shot like a thing out and then because some kid choked on it, that's the urban legend that they made it so it was. That's Boba Fett. Yeah, that was Boba Fett.

Speaker 1(43:31)

That was the Boba Fett missile on his back.

Speaker 2(43:34)

Yeah, I think it wasn't, and it wasn't, it was another toy that Kenner had put out that caused the problem, and so the whole company went, stop everything, and they glued the rocket into uh Boba Fett's rocket launcher. I know.

Speaker 1(43:51)

It would no longer allow it.

Speaker 2(43:53)

I was one proof of purchase away from getting my boba fat when they stopped production and glued it all together. I was like, oh, please let me get the good. Can you imagine what that would be worth today? Probably treat 400 bucks or something. I don't know. To a tree.

Speaker 1(44:11)

Who was the dumb kid that couldn't poke the guy in the eye with it and launch it for them to hurt someone's eye? Well we survived.

Speaker 2(44:28)

Sharp pieces of metal flying in the air at your head.

Speaker 1(44:33)

But that's a great in. Depth explanation of said X-Wing. Alright, so we're off to me for number two. It's gotta be the TIE Fighter. However, I'm going with the TIE advanced X1. Did I do it wrong?

Speaker 2(44:51)

Nice. You got it.

Speaker 1(44:53)

Ah, it's the X one. Alright. I want to be sure. Anyway, Darth Vader's TIE Fighter Man. I'm it's look, I mean, how dumb for me to think of how just those little, you know, curved or slotted wings just aiming in. What a difference it made. It just looked so much more badass, you know. And just for him to go off hurling into space in it, which it's a big memory to me. I don't know if you guys had it when you were younger, but huge. The the uh it was a Star Wars book and it was very visual. There were so many photos in it, and it always said Darth Vader's ship hurling into space. And yeah, of course you see it, you know, yeah, when when Han Sorrow comes in to save the Death Star battle, but just that little ship was so much more battle axe than the other TIE fighters, and like you said, Donald, that's a long no short range fighter. Now I'm going backwards, yeah.

Speaker 3(46:06)

But just I loved them just to be one dude and that little pod, you know what I mean, and kicking ass, and I like in some in some of the newer shows, they show them how they like load into them, you know, and they're just like a really quick deployable craft, like they're just like quick, ready launch, and they go like they're out in no time, yeah.

Speaker 1(46:30)

But that is one of my favorite Star Wars ships of all time, without question, battle axe, badass looking. It just looks more mean.

Speaker 2(46:42)

So it was billed as a prototype, so it did have the hyperdrive and deflector shield and had five days worth of consumables as opposed to the two uh uh standard TIE fighter. Oh, it's just a good thing. So it can't be that short range. 160,000 credits, brand new or 65 used.

Speaker 1(47:01)

Can you do the conversion for me, please, in Canadian, Mexican, and American?

Speaker 2(47:06)

Yeah, right, right. I can give it to you in lira. 48 billion.

Speaker 3(47:13)

Right. Well, 20,000 lira is like 60 cents. All right, Dongo, off to you. For for now. Yeah, right. All right. So again, I'm going kind of low class, not low class, but low impact, low, but it's just a cool, and it's the um, let's see if I get the serial number of this this bad boy, but it's in it's a frigate. So it's the EF76 Nebulin B escort frigate. And the only thing you're gonna know what it was, it's the medical ship. Classic and the vampires. Right. Yes, it's like every episode, and it's unimposing, but it's just their medical ship and it cruises along and it's in the fight. And I I respect that. It's your course.

Speaker 1(48:06)

It's like the medic in World War II where technically you're not supposed to shoot at.

Speaker 3(48:12)

But it's a frigate. And they're they're important, you know, support ships, damn straight fleet, yeah.

Speaker 1(48:19)

Frigate.

Speaker 3(48:20)

Right?

Speaker 2(48:20)

Eight eight point five million dollars. Eight point five million credit price tag on that. That's because they gotta pay the doctors. It's a big ship, yeah.

Speaker 3(48:31)

Yeah, it's an odd, odd shaped ship for sure. That is, like it's not gonna maneuver its way out of anything, but it's gonna yeah.

Speaker 1(48:41)

Think about that. The the the doctors are droids, so they should save money on the payroll. Right.

Speaker 8(48:49)

Right.

Speaker 1(48:50)

But that's a great one, man. So that's number one to you, Kev, to wrap her up for us.

Speaker 2(48:56)

All right, wrap it up. I'll take it. So, number one, I had to go with what you took early on, the Death Star. It's it is the pinnacle. It is the it's it's the size of a planet.

Speaker 3(49:10)

Yeah.

Speaker 2(49:11)

And it is mobile.

Speaker 3(49:13)

Yes, right. It is mobile.

Speaker 2(49:16)

Mobile. I mean, we all know that Galen Urso had a lot to do with the design of it, but you also had the uh Project Celestial Power and the Stalgas and Hive on Geonosis, the those dragonfly weird things on Geonosin. Which is, I mean, you you wonder, and I always think of the the clerks where he says, you know, he's talking talking about the roofing. Yeah, the roofers and whatever else, and the guys on the desktop. They knew what the risk was. They they knew they weren't they knew they weren't working on Joe's house down the street. They they they were getting paid hazard pay. They they they knew it was a possibility.

Speaker 12(49:58)

So Alright, look, you're a roofer. Some juicy government contract comes your way. You got a wife and kids, the two-story in suburbia. This is a government contract, which means all sorts of benefits. Along come these left-wing militants and blast everything within a three-mile radius with their lasers. You didn't ask for that. You have no personal politics. You're just trying to scrape out a living. Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt, but all what are you talking about? The ending of Return of the Jedi.

Speaker 13(50:21)

My friend here's trying to convince me that any independent contractors who were working on the uncompleted Death Star were innocent victims when they were destroyed by the rebels.

Speaker 14(50:29)

Well, I'm a contractor myself. I'm a roofer. Done and ready, home improvements. And speaking as a roofer, I can tell you Roofer's personal politics comes into play heavily when choosing jobs. Like what? Three weeks ago, I was offered a job up in the hills, a beautiful house, tons of property, a simple reshinggling job. They told me if I could finish it in one day, I would double my price. Then I realized whose house it was. Whose house was it? Dominic Bambino's. Babyface Bambino? The gangster? The same. The money was right, but the risk was too high. I knew who he was, and based on that, I turned the job over to a friend of mine. Based on personal politics. Right, and the next week the Ferressi family put a hit on Babyface's house. My friend was shot and killed. Didn't even finish re-sjingling. No way. I'm alive because I knew the risk involved in that particular client. My friend wasn't so lucky. Any contractor working on that dead star knew the risk involved. If they got killed, it's their own fault. Aroofa listens to this, not his wallet.

Speaker 2(51:33)

I'll shed a tear for them.

Speaker 1(51:34)

That's one of the best scenes in movie history, too. Oh, it's so great.

Speaker 2(51:39)

It's such a great news movie. I know, and the it was just that fanboy thing just finally like got to the top. Uh powered by, yeah, it's got a super laser, obviously, planet destroying super laser, powered by kyber crystals, laser beams, and just just massive. I mean, how long do you think it takes to build one of those?

Speaker 3(52:02)

Oh boy. Right? I mean depends how the payroll was, but well, you can see how the massive undertaking it puts goes into it, yeah.

Speaker 1(52:12)

Yeah, because when you see it in the in the second one, and it's you know, just a portion of a planet, and you're still we gotta figure out how many years I'm sure someone out there or us could figure that out, but between the you know, when it's done in Star Wars, you know, episode four, and then where it's half built or three-quarter built through return.

Speaker 3(52:40)

Fully um an operational battle station.

Speaker 1(52:44)

You would think that that it would take longer than that, so they get a pretty hefty crew working. But go on, Kev, I apologize.

Speaker 3(52:53)

No, labor and prison labor, but they their prison labor is very similar to some of the prison labor we use in the United States, but I won't go there. Oh boy, here we go. Oh, you're selling like small amounts of marijuana. We're gonna put you in a work camp. Right.

Speaker 2(53:11)

Well, what was it? I forget now. At the at the end of um at the end of Andor, they show us what those pieces he was working on. Yeah, yeah, right?

Speaker 3(53:22)

Yeah, they were working on the satellite array of the or the weapon itself, right? Right.

Speaker 2(53:28)

So yeah, definitely some uh some time and effort and slave labor involved in creating something of that magnitude.

Speaker 1(53:38)

Indeed. All right, excellent. Off to me for number one, yes. So number one. I'm actually surprised I got to pick this one first, which I'm very excited about because it's always been my favorite vehicle, although I can't differentiate, you know, between the models of it. But this would be the superstar destroyer. All right, and I think that, yes, sir, that's the one. Sorry, ISO. But my favorite thing here is, and I always, you know, lead off to this when I think about this, is when they do show said Death Star, but when they show the Star Destroyers flying into it, you watch it from afar and you see it coming up to this massive Death Star. And then when it gets closer, you think it's going into this slot. A little closer, you think it's going into this slot, and then when it finally flies into the Death Star, it's like a pinpoint that the Star Detroit is flying into, and it just gives you a sense of you know size, like how massive that Death Star is, yeah, because it just goes into like the tiniest little bay in the Death Star, and that thing is so effing massive, but just and that's the opening scene is the opening scene is the massiveness exactly how we always flip it. It's amazing when it's flying over us, and right you worded it perfect in one of our let uh last casts. But when you said, Yep, we're gonna put all the important people on this ship on top of a stick, right? You know, that an X-wing can fly into and demolish the whole thing. But this ship to me, and then you know, we also gotta go to uh Ray on Tatooine with that crashed one, too, when they show it on the ground and just her like coming down that friggin' rope on it, and how it's just they're massive and so cool. And I will leave it at that, Donald. Just the coolest ship in the Star Wars universe.

Speaker 3(56:08)

Oh, it is the coolest ship, and that's why it was also my number one is the superstar destroyer. Focus all firepower on that superstar destroyer.

Speaker 10(56:16)

We've got to give out my concentrate all fire on that superstar destroyer.

Speaker 3(56:22)

Admiral, as Admiral Akbar said, Yes, you know, in that in that battle of endor, you know, yeah, and it didn't take much to take it out. They just had to go after the the whatever the shield arrays or whatever that's on the top of the stick. Exactly. And then it was a kamikaze attack, you know. Yeah, the guy lost his his uh guidance control or whatever. Accidental kamikaze attack.

Speaker 1(56:46)

Right, he kamikaze into the bridge, you know.

Speaker 3(56:49)

Increase four and firepower! Increase four and firepower!

Speaker 1(56:53)

Oh great scene. Are we yeah, we're done picking. So that is a ship. I mean, I don't know if any of us picked that that Karillian ship, or is that a Corellian ship?

Speaker 2(57:07)

Yes, the Tantin 4 is a Corellian engineering ship. Yes. The product line is Alderanian Diplomatic Cruiser. You can have it for 1.2 million credits.

Case anyone out there wants to take out a loan, you'll know.

Speaker 2(57:25)

I think I saw one on Facebook Marketplace.

Speaker 1(57:29)

Yeah. Yeah, awesome. Well, that was great fun, though. Love talking Star Wars, and it's certainly not going to be the even close to the last time. Um, one thing I do want to get out there for everyone is this is, of course, under the umbrella of past times at 80shigh and preachers of the night. So uh check out our website, past times at 80shigh.com. That is 80s for 80s. Pastimes at 80shigh.com. Also, email us at pta80h at gmail.com. Once again, pta80h at gmail.com. And definitely check us out on the socials. Uh, especially Facebook right now. We have past times at 80s high, and then we have past timers at 80s high so that you can all contribute, try to get involved, and we can't thank you enough for all of the downloads, five-star reviews, and anything you can say for us on that Apple Podcast review really helps move us up the line, and we could not appreciate it more. So, thank you all from Australia, the UK. I mean, my goodness, the stuff coming from all around the world. I yeah, I can't even say how much we appreciate that. So, thank you all so much. And Dongo, thank you. Hey, see you? Absolutely, smash that like button. That Kevin hates that, which is why he said it.

Speaker 2(59:10)

I mean, I'd love for you to hit the like button. I'd love for you to email us or reach out to us in any way or form. I just hate it when shows say that like that. It's so annoying.

Speaker 1(59:20)

And yes, and moss Isley.

Speaker 2(59:25)

Thank you, gentlemen.
